I purchased the Black House on a recent trip to Scotland. Absolutely compelling read. Some very funny parts but a rich tapestry of the western isle environment. Read it in three days. Am looking froward to the next installment.

I've just got around to reading this. I didn't enjoy it quite as much as the first one but still a very good read. I'm looking forward to the third book very much.

Maybe its designed so that the reader finds it easy to impose themselves into the story? (Like twilight fans have shown?)

Here we go again. A brand new series for me to get lost in. I heard an extract from the audio book on The Book Report radio show and it sounds really good. I will follow your advice and read The Blackhouse first. It is always better to read the books of a series in sequence. You can listen to the archived radio shows on http://www.bookreportradio.com

That's how I felt about the CJ Sansom books... I don't know how true they were to the era, but I loved the fun of reading those little mysteries. :)

I know what you mean about historical accuracy: there're so many different versions of that time period it's hard to say who's correct about what, and besides as you said, it's such fun to read I don't know that I cared that much!

A wonderful book that I've just read and reviewed. I can't believe it was turned down by so many publishers either. It makes you despair.

Our book club just met to discuss The Marriage Plot and we were also disappointed. We too enjoyed Middlesex. Several of our members did not even finish the book. It was not an easy read.

Great review! I didn't actually understand the title completely so thanks for the explanation.

And that banning business! Yawn. Don't these people have anything better to do? It was fun to read your responses to the different reasons for banning and I completely agree!
